  1. interestingly the only scientist i am aware of to become the leader of their country was margaret thatcher, who had to deal,with the newly discovered phenomena of pollution induced acid rain. with low levels of data about severity and mitigation, she tasked the scientists to improve the data, determine which places needed the most work, and rank the mitigation measures according to cost and effectiveness. it worked. we could do with some more of this type of thinking around some of the other science based problems that we face.
