@lindenbasket NAT adds complexity, which makes self hosting harder, which means less people do it, which means more people are only consuming instead of producing. I'm trapped behind a double NAT until I move and it sucks.

"phone don't got keyboard" probably isn't the hill you want to die on, but I get the point you're trying to make. phones are locked down and meant for talking to people and looking at things, not making things.

@dandan-gf4jk yes and that's great for people who have that technical skill, but what about people who have other specialties who want to escape digital serfdom? It has been the case in the past that the barrier to entry was lower, and I think it's to everyone's detriment that it's higher now. Learning new skills is great but if the actual end goal is for more people to own their online presence, it simply won't happen if everyone needs to learn about things like NAT traversal. I'm not saying it needs to be as easy as typing "gimme a free website" into Google, but my point is making something harder means fewer people will do it. Fair?

@desktorp but I'm not? The point I was making is that you can still type on a phone and crying about having to use a touchscreen instead of a physical keyboard is a little silly when they both accomplish the same goal.
