  1. I was given an ipad as a gift, so occasionally I use it for youtube. if I look away from the screen I often get an ad. once I left music playing on it while I left the room and came back to a (thankfully skippable) 45 minute ad.

  2.  @n8chz  all amateur internet is less scalable with HD video than with text like it was back in the 90s. p2p downloading would help somewhat but people would need to be pretty generous with their own bandwidth and not leech in order for download speeds to be anything like what we have now with privately funded CDNs. popular stuff would download quite quickly, but obscure stuff might not download at all if the right people weren't online.
