@anon_y_mousse rereading my comment I don't think I stated my meaning explicitly enough. for people who are actually bothered by the amount of choices on offer, who I assume are beginners who want to use their computer to do things and aren't interested in linux as a hobby, just sit them down in front of Mint and call it a day.

the answer to the too many distros problem is the same as it has been for years: linux mint. all of the minutiae about systemd and package managers and all the other stuff linux enthusiasts argue over is for, well, enthusiasts.
