  1. not to mention all the videos that get taken down now, and they're making it harder than ever to download videos. come on, there are so many abandoned old videos on this site that were made by people who weren't doing youtube as a business that are just disappearing now.

  2. same thing happens with streaming, but it's worse than cable because in addition to seeing ads on something you're paying for, you would have to pay multiple companies more money than you would pay to get basically everything from one cable company.

  3. 12:07 spot on. This is one of the reasons I use a paid email provider instead of gmail. I don't see a youtube alternative that I'm willing to pay a subscription fee for just yet but since online video is my primary entertainment besides videogames I know one is going to pop up at some point

  4. ​ @rossmanngroup I still think companies would have eventually learned double-dipping always gets them more money, but I'd still prefer to live in the hypothetical world with more informed customers

  5. my adblocker is my first line of defense against malware and I don't whitelist anything for that reason. I'm especially not going to pay for a site like youtube with its ethical problems. I'm just here because there's nothing better yet.
