I agree with your take on the issue, and some atheists even agree that religions are proto sciences. counterintuitively for some people though, I don't think that means they've been made entirely obsolete, as modern science is steeped in its own biases that stem from things like culture, politics, and profitability. People like Alok continue to demonstrate that secularism hasn't completely strip-mined the world's religions of all of their merits, so as corny as it sounds both will have to continue to exist if we don't want to lose anything of value while we work to eliminate the negative excesses of both.
