  2. there's something to Dr K's idea that people need to cultivate contentment if there's nothing that satisfies, people like that move through life with a hole they can't fill. But there's also something to the Reddit OP's statement that a lot of modern occupations just suck and many are worse than useless, and we know this but we're in a (hopefully) transitional period where we haven't come up with anything better than busywork to make sure everyone has the appearance of earning their pay and keeping the wheels of the economy turning. People tend to value something that they've worked for more than something handed to them, and people also tend to not like feeling useless or redundant, so I still support the idea of people having something to busy themselves with, but we can probably come up with something better than 40 hours of sitting in front of a screen manipulating symbols.
