  2. idk Mentis, all of the apologia for self driving cars isn't doing much for me. While I prefer private transportation over public, trains would be much simpler to implement than either outfitting every car with expensive high-performance silicon (which ends up destroyed in accidents or stolen) or making them all drones controlled from a centralized hub (which would create a litany of perverse incentives). Saying "any complex system can be hacked!" isn't a good reason to prefer a complex system over a simple one when a simple one works. For my money, I think the real solution to traffic is to effectively end the commute and the central office. most people who work sitting in front of a computer don't need to waste time driving anywhere, and we have data on this now. People who still have to literally show up to work could take the less-congested roads or public transit and have a more pleasant and safer experience.
