You are underestimating humans. Homo Sapiens have been the top predators ever since we came into being. We might be slow, but we can chase our prey for ours. We are bigger and stronger than most animals, this is why even the bigger predators think twice before messing with us. We made monsters such as Smilodon Populator (Saber-tooth cat), Panthera Atrox (American Lion) and Giant Short-Faced Bear go extinct as soon as we entered their habitats. Back then we didn't have fancy guns, just spears and arrows. Our only flaw is that our muscles are attached to our skins. Most other animals have loose skins which basically allow them to move under their skins, which is why they have higher pain tolerance and can survive devastating bite attacks.
