We have ANZAC day (25th April) and Remembrance Day (11th November), which is shared by most of the former British Empire

I'm glad to hear an American actually acknowledge the war started years before America actually joined the combat. Without the stubborn resistance of the Commonwealth after the fall of France Germany and Italy basically had free reign in Europe. Until July 1941 Russia had a non aggression pact, and America didn't enter the war until December 1941, so it really was the Empire standing alone against the entirety of the Axis and the resources of captured France.

Americans don't really eat lamb. There are a couple of states where it is more normal, but on the whole it really isn't a thing. Australians and, also New Zealanders do. Although lamb sales have been in decline for some time as simply put beef is cheaper to produce in volume in many areas. Less prone to diseases and predators. A pity, as lamb and also goats (very similar) can be quite delicious. A good lamb stew, or lamb shanks make for a delicious tender meat, especially with potatoes and lots of rosemary. Americans really do need to try a few more foods. Pumpkin soup is good, plum jams are delicious. Looks a real solid MRE. Btw, you use the sweetened condensed milk with the coffee. It is sugar and milk in one. You can make toffee and caramel with it too if you heat it up, but mainly just use it in your drink or eat it straight from the tube.

You havent had a lot of exposure with SASR? If they're doing their job well, other than the odd mess hall meeting, you wouldn't even know they were there. Australia don't have the biggest armed forces in the world. What we do have, however, is some of the very best Special Forces in the world. We make up for what we don't have in numbers with quality. To try and explain it to someone outside our structure, the 2nd Commando would probably be the equivalent of the US Marines SOCOM. Similar to Delta Force, or 75th Rangers, but honestly probably a little bit higher, in that they're not an "elite infantry unit" but are not just a part of a specialised Special Operations Command, but the absolute spearhead of the Austalian Armed forces. When the 2nd Commando (itself an elite Special Operations unit) is calling in the SASR because THEY can't get the job done without huge casualties you know the odds are really bad or intel has GONE HORRIBLY WRONG. 10-1 odds for these guys are just a warm up. These guys are absolute machines.
