  2. De Bortoli Noble One and a warm brownie is right up there with "ultimate experiences". Most regions have their absolute star wines. Mornington Peninsula is all about the Pinots (both Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir), Clare Valley the Riesling, Barossa the Shiraz, Coonawarra the Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherglen the Fortified wines. Tasmania makes the best Australian Sparkling Wines. Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc, Yarra Valley Chardonnay and so on. Some regions produce excellent wines of more than one grape, but for most people which region is the best is more honestly an assessment of which type of wine they prefer. NSW and QLD honestly don't make the best of ANY wines, but they're still pretty reasonable wines without having the stellar attributes of some of the more expensive names. This is not to say that when they get the right conditions they can't have a great vintage, as both the Hunter and Granite Belt have done in the past. They're just not as consistently good.
