But they can give you rabies, lyssavirus or hendravirus. Hendra has a 50% fatality rate and no cure. Never mind the Coronaviruses that bats also spread, they are mild compared to many other diseases bats carry. So never ever handle an kind of bat in Australia. Always get an expert to handle them, or at last resort, use gardening gloves and wrap them in a towel.
