  1. The tallest peak in Australian claimed territory is over 11,000 feet tall. This depends on whether or not you count the Antarctic Territory. Mawson Peak is over 9000 feet, and Australian responsibility for that is not up for debate. Even ignoring these external islands and territories Australia still gets a fair bit of snow. Australia has a LOT of mountains over 5000 feet tall, from South West Tasmania to Far North Queensland, and snow falls in every mainland state and territory as well as Tasmania. Snow falling in the Northern Territory and Queensland is not an annual winter seasonal event, but happens every few years, so it isn't THAT rare.

  3. Funny to see cold Tasmania is actually about the same Latitude as the South of France. Actually, Hobart is about the same Latitude as New York City , although a more accurate comparison might be Medford, Oregon based on population and climate date.
