One other thing that should get you into cricket is the history. The first international cricket match was not between England and Australia, contrary to popular belief. It was between CANADA and UNITED STATES. In 1844. In NEW YORK CITY.

Two of our greatest ever cricketers gone in such a short time. :'( Vale Rod Marsh and Warney Cricket is objectively a very strange sport, especially Test Cricket. It is a relic of the bored upper classes of 3 centuries ago that can still be enthralling despite lasting for 5 days.

"You don't even want to go up to bat"... Shane Warne TERRIFIED the English batsmen for most of his career, but from his first ball in 1993 "The ball of the century" right until 2007 when he retired the English were just unable to play him. Australia won 8 ashes series in a row, with Warne being involved in 6 of them. When we finally lost a series in 2005 he ended up with 40 wickets. That's 8 wickets per match, or 4 per innings. 40 wickets out of 93 that the English lost for the series, by one bowler (not pitcher). (Normally there are 10 wickets per innings and 20 wickets per match, but if you beat the opposition's score then you don't continue batting, the match is declared as being won). Teams usually have 5 bowlers, and maybe a couple of extra part time bowlers. That shows you how influential he was. He ended up with 195 wickets against England at just over 23 runs per wicket. Anything in the low 20's over a long career is a really good average. There's only one more bowler who has scored more than Warne's 708. Muttiah Muralitharan has 800. But he's been no balled for a suspect action on multiple occasions (bowlers must bowl the ball with a straight arm not throw it) so many people consider him not to be a legitimate bowler, although he has been cleared to play by the world governing body the ICC. I'm not starting a war over that one, just stating facts.
