  2. A million salmonella cases a year because of $0.14 per bird. Keeps the farmers happy. Keeps the doctors happy. Hurts public health and gives 3rd world health outcomes for those who can't afford to go to hospital for a stomach bug. But there's another side to this too - vaccinating animals and treating them with hormones, antibiotics and so forth is destroying medical defences from pandemics and is creating antibiotic resistant superbugs. If America (or Europe too) were consistent on these standards, one way or the other, then it probably wouldn't matter - either immunize everything or reserve the medicines for human use so no superbugs are created. Yet both zones allow some animal treatments and then disallow them on other animals - so both create huge vectors for Zoonotic illnesses, just on different animals.

  3. It's more complex than that, it's seasonal. I'm keen on the butter being OUT of the fridge and it has been, but next week's weather shows that the butter out season is officially over.
