These are available to anyone... but you need someone on a jetski to tow you out there and to potentially recover you if you land badly. Broken bones, or knocking yourself out are not unusual on waves this size and the risk of drowning after knocking yourself out is very real. Australia gets massive waves from the southern ocean which are powered by the massive temperature differentials between the Antarctic and the more warm waters of Australia. The southern ocean honestly has crazy seas as the winds and currents can go around the globe multiple times before reaching land. You wanted scale? The largest recorded wave in Australian waters was over 78 feet tall. Most of these are only 30 or 35 foot waves (around 10 metres tall) so they do get twice as big as these in the videos. We hear about famous beaches which are more consistent, or are surfed in major competitions like Bells Beach, or Kirra, or Narrabeen. Snapper Rocks or Caves. Even some of those they cancel the surfing for the best surfers in the world when it gets too crazy. When the southern ocean gets hardcore Bells Beach goes from entertaining to scary pretty easily. But then there's the stuff that's far too scary for most to surf, all the time. The Right. Shipsterns Bluff. Frankly stupid big waves that can easily kill you.

Both The Right and Shipsterns get huge waves too. You get the kind of freak conditions that smashed the 1998 Sydney to Hobart and I'm sure Shipsterns was absolutely insane. 50, 60 foot waves are NORMAL there so what it's like in the worst weather I'd love to see footage of. But you'd probably need a helicopter to take you out there because I don't think a jetski could do it.
