  1. Worth noting there are many venomous (not poisonous, although I'm sure they'd still have the venom to poison you if you ate them) spiders than just those two. The Sydney Funnel Web is possibly the most scary, because it is very common even in our most largest city. But there are are over 40 species of Funnel Web Spider, and the Sydney one isn't even the most deadly, you need to look at the various species of Tree Dwelling Funnel Webs for that. Then we get cool stuff like Australian Tarantulas and Bird Eating Spiders, Mouse Spiders, Wolf Spiders and Trap Door spiders, all with various (and potentially deadly) strength venoms. The Redback is pretty tame by comparison, only about as deadly as it's relatives the Black Widow and Katipo (from NZ). Honestly our white tailed spiders frighten me far more with their necrotic poisons. So if you're frightened of Black Widows and Brown Recluses and Tarantulas, Australia is not for you

  2. There's a few more states than 8. Jervis Bay Territory is not actually part of the ACT, but it's own territory. Plus we have Christmas Island, Cocos Island and Norfolk Island, which exist outside those 8 states and territories. then you get stuff like Macquarie Island and Australian Antarctic Territory.
