@cavedmanjim249 I'm not a big fan of Merlo. Actively hated it after moving from Melbourne to Brisbane, but it's not the worst thing out there. Given a $2 7-11 coffee or a Merlo I'm still 50/50 tbh. But both are better than Starbucks.

This. a 17 syrup coffee that is basically a sugar hit, with virtually no coffee flavour.

I remember when they did that. I was working at Abbottsford at the time. Ahhh, good times.

@myopinion69420 You buy the $2 one because volume is important for caffinations.

@le13dan Their maccas coffee is percolated (for many many hours), so completely different.

@cavedmanjim249 you need to cut down man. When I worked in high pressure finance I counted how many cups I had in a day. It was 60. No exaggeration, no joke. Any 5 minute downturn was an excuse to go to the (free) coffee machine to extract yourself from the screens and maybe socialise for a minute. Shortly (like weeks after), I had a workplace stress test and they tested my heart rate while on the job. Suffice to say the numbers were ermmmm not good. Like a fit 30 year old giving worse numbers than a stroke victim. It finally convinced me that my coffee addiction was totally out of control. I only drink a couple of cups a day, maybe a can of red bull and a coke zero - all for fatigue management reasons.

We will drink our instant over starbucks. I'm sure that there are plenty of alternatives that could be mailed over that are better than starbucks.

The "on the go" thing is true here. I don't recall the last time I sat down at a cafe for either food or a coffee. Our lives are far too short and too busy. Plus we prioritize the wrong things. Just like Americans do. Frtom what I've seenin Europe and Asia these are universal time pressures. So... that doesn't explain Starbucks failure. However, the quality of the coffee, which was at best average, at the highest price point in a highly competitive market, explains everything perfectly. Too expensive, mediocre coffee is not an effective strategy for a coffee business.
