The second, obviously was the OPEC scare where people started paying $5000 for a new Datsun 120Y (B210 to Americans) instead of paying LESS for a Torana due to fuel economy concerns. The third was Australian Design Regulations for pollution reduction, particularly ADR 27, 27a and the later ADR 37. These are similar to your EPA regulations.
