Special forces and police departments will choose firearms based on things like accuracy, control and also minimal collateral damage. Being a hostage target accidentally hit by an armour piercing round with smaller post penetration damage over say a 9mm is potentially an advantage in those circumstances, and the lack of damage on intended targets can be presumably be resolved by a high fire rate and a 50 round magazine if required.

They really are a cool piece of kit. The question is, would this be the choice of front line combat troops to invade the universe? Handing them over to the Daniel Jacksons of the world, I get. To Colonel O'Neill, on the other hand it seems the wrong tool in the wrong hands.

The worry I have is lack of range if everyone is armed with these. It's basically a small pistol round as far as range is concerned. For a well trained special forces team who have a known target within close range with all the intel, or a REMF looking for a convenient spray and pray device to sit on a passenger seat of a truck, these are ideal. The problem in the field if that's your only choice is that ANY enemy capable of engaging you at a longer range than you can will do so unless they are total morons.
