  1. Basically it's between these and the Owen, which served the Australian Army for almost 30 years and is also a VERY simple design. Evelyn Owen was even younger as a gun designer and Australia only had a fraction of the industrial resources of the Soviet Union at the time. Sadly he also died very young.
