But they would have been sending out for longer. The core problem, is 1 over r^2. The signals are very very weak and the more advanced the technology, the less power you will need to send them. So they won't be as 'loud'.

@danielwoodard3737 But its not time. It's distance and strength. Inverse square law, power transmitted against the senstitvity of detectors. 1. Why would they be broadcasting on high power. 2. As technology improves are detectors improve. So our transmitters need less power. 3. That 1/r^2, that's the killer.

@danielwoodard3737 So why can't your radio pick up a transmission from voyager? It's very near in cosmic terms.
