  2.  @clivemiddleton9149  I've a proposal. Lets call it referenda by proxy. Nothing changes about first past the post. A separate issue is selection of candidates and there you need open primaries You nominate an MP, any MP as your proxy. Proxy votes are needed to pass votes. You can change your proxy at any time That's it. So why does that work? Tory vote in a Labour seat? Nominate a Tory MP Direct democracy? One MP would set up a proxy website, where they will pass on your proxy vote. Manifestos. Things not in the manifesto? You can stop it. In the manifesto, and not implemented? Well that isn't covered. If you don't like a policy? Well you have the right of consent. They can't force it on you. If MPs lie then that's not informed consent. As the victim, you can't be punished for saying no. No needs for the Lords too. They go. That saves 150 million a year. Voter registration is 100 million a year. 20 million on top for handling the nominations, its cash flow positive.
