They are worse off because the state makes a 30% gross profit on its services. They are screwed because of massive migration of the poor to the UK, a huge percentage from the EU. They are screwed because politicians didn't do what they promised over brexit.

Now that redistribution, demanded by socialists, instead of investment for the pensions, has results. 1. Austerity 2. Low take home pay 3. Lack of investment 4. Pensioner poverty 5. Cost of living crisis ... So the mess is there. Starmer can't fix it. Tories can't fix it. They both created it.
