  1. They confuse personality with sexuality. Characters can be caricatures; that's fine. But this isn't caricatures. This is a character with zero personality, just stereotypes.

  2.  @JonathanMandrake  , people want compelling characters. For example, take Doctor Who (a show I'd even recommend to non-sci-fi folks). Even the characters you /hate/ are compelling. You don't hate the characters that you hate because they're not compelling; you hate those characters because they're villains doing awful things! Not every show needs to have epic characters (think "epic" as in expansive, of great depth), but every show /does/ need to have compelling characters.

  4. Who could have imagined a show where the only premise is "gay spy" would fail? That's not a good character. Not because she's a gay spy, but because the whole point is she's gay. She's nothing else. She doesn't act like a real person.
