The design of North American cities is not really design by aesthetics but rather by law. The people that already live in the area do not want more people coming in and so they pass laws that limit building such as height restrictions, minimum parking requirements, minimum lot sizes, restrictive zoning, etc. This forces cities to spread horizontally rather than vertically, necessitating private car travel, more infrastructure, and making public transport inefficient for most people. It's extremely inefficient, very expensive, much more detrimental to the environment. Not to mention it creates ugly places and its mentally depressing for the eyes.

Meanwhile we have two metro lines (with one station that connects both lines), trams, and the Korean State Railway to connect the people of Pyongyang and its metro area together. A lot more simple and easier to traverse compared to Tokyo. There are hardly any cars because people prefer to take public transit due to how convenient or it is. Or would rather ride a bike or walk for good exercise. But alas you won't see any praise towards us from a Western source Also, at 7:05 that is the Yamanote Line which is not a subway. It's an above-ground loop service

Imagine an alternate timeline where the Soviets went on with invading Hokkaido, and then made a socialist state there... With how much of Hokkaido is agriculture-oriented, it would've been the perfect place for the Japanese Communist Party (which is currently the largest non-governing communist party) to rule.

6:50 This version of our flag is incorrect, as the star and circle should be on the left side rather than in the middle. Similar to Costa Rica's. As great as it was to work with them, it's pretty clear which city is more well-designed when it comes to this and Pyongyang. Pyongyang was completely destroyed by US bombings during the war. And rising from the ashes of the war, my grandpa designed a new shining showcase city that a recovering nation could be proud of. I mean we built our metro before Seoul did...Naypyidaw doesn't even have one! And these houses really give suburban America a run for their money...don't get me started on those roads either, they look more like an afterthought than well thought-out like ours.

Man, I can't believe this Isaias Afwerki guy overthrew Admiral General Aladeen and changed the country's name from Wadiya to Eritrea. 😂I loved it when Admiral General Aladeen arrived in NYC on a camel. Eritrea has a neat flag! The green stands for the agriculture and livestock of the country. Blue stands for the Red Sea and its marine wealth. Red for the bloodshed in the struggle for independence. The yellow wreath symbolizes peace and Eritrean unity. The outer wreaths have 15 leaves on each side, representing the 30 years it took to get independence. There are six leaves total in the center, and the leaves are split into three, with one side representing the 9 ethnic groups of the country and the other side for the 9 national languages. The country's emblem features a camel surrounded by an olive wreath. The camel was the beast of burden used during the war of independence from Ethiopia to transport supplies and goods, and was seen as being instrumental to the movement's success by Eritrean nationalists

Panama: We came up with the most basic names for a new place The UK: We will watch your career with great interest It's the same energy as calling a long island in New York...Long Island. At least the Native American name sounded interesting, Paumanok, meaning "the island that pays tribute" (called this because more powerful tribes forced peaceful Long Island tribes like the Shinnecock and Montaukett to pay tribute to avoid attacks). It's also the same energy as the Soviets naming two islands next to each other in Severnaya Zemlya...Bolshevik Island and October Revolution Island

1:36 The Swedish embassy is within the former embassy for the German Democratic Republic (better known as East Germany in the West). Today it is not just the Swedish embassy, but also the British and German embassies as well as a French Cooperation office. It serves as consular representation for Finland, Iceland, Italy, Canada, Australia, and protective force for the US too. We bought exactly a thousand Volvo 144s from Sweden in the 70s. Twice a year Sweden sends out new invoices that we still ignore. Why? Because they shared their Volvos with us, thus they're OUR Volvos.

Sixty active volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis and two very hostile and nuclear armed countries just a stone's throw away... Country: Japan Starting difficulty: Advance Japan is an island by the sea filled with volcanoes and it's ✨b e a u t i f u l✨....we are honored to be featured on your channel once again. And those lack of resources you're talking about, is exactly why they started their imperialist ambitions. When Korea was Joseon, we were able to remain isolated for a long time. We even managed to fight off the US in an incident called the General Sherman Incident. But alas, Japan made us sign a friendship treaty in 1876 which eventually led to becoming a protectorate in 1897 and then full annexation in 1910.

Eagle: this snake looks good. Lemme find a comfy place to eat it 600 years later: An earthquake is nothing when compared to what the US did to our country during the fifties. Bombing 85 percent of our buildings, including 75 percent of Pyongyang. We had to rebuild everything from scratch, and out of the ashes of the war rose a brand-new shining showcase capital for our motherland. All thanks to the work of my grandpa Kim Il-sung.
