It's just sad to see those ships just rusting away in the middle of nowhere, knowing the thriving ecosystem that was once there. This is a lesson that those in the American Southwest need to watch, because Lake Mead by Hoover Dam has been at its lowest level since 1937, when the reservoir was first filled. And since so many out West like Las Vegas rely on both the dam and the Colorado River in general for electricity, drinking water, and growing crops, it can cause a big crisis for the region (and hurt the American economy because of all those crops grown there). Doesn't help that golf courses have been built by it.

@tomm8554 Golf courses eat up all the river's water. Lots of it. That's why I bring it up

And we never learn. In Nauru, Nauruans wanted their independence from Australia because they had plenty of phosphate (resulting from all the birds that stopped there to do their business) and wanted to make use of it for a flourishing economy. In the 80s, they were the WORLD'S richest country. So successful to the point that the country's airline could afford to fly to so many destinations, even if hardly anyone were on the flights. But this success wouldn't last long, as the Nauruan phosphate industry collapsed in the early 2000s because quite simply, the phosphate ran out. This resulted in the island heavily relying on Australia for aid. In exchange for said aid, they agreed to house Australia's asylum seekers in a controversial facility. Because there was no longer a place for Nauruans to farm, Nauruans started relying on canned goods shipped in, resulting in the world's highest obesity rate
