those mountains are beautiful- and the cooler weather chases out the homeless people every fall. we have only a dozen or so homeless people here in alpine. they are more like dopeheads than victims of circumstances. they live right behind our rite-aid (on county land) in the warmer months. about octoberish, they head down to san diego where they stay warmer and take advantage of all the liberals who support them. in a couple more months, they'll be back because they know its nicer up in the hills during the summer months. nicer, cleaner and much less crime. i would rather feed the ravens that live nearby, as they work harder to keep our neighborhoods clean. imagine being outworked by a bird!

i love driving thru there on I-40- flashbacks of rt 66. i'm from ohio and its just too depressing to go back there as its not the same as it was 50 years ago
2
that is if it EVER stops raining...
2
have you spent any time in the rust belt? its getting very depressed there. see how dumpy east palestine, ohio is? (even before they made the news) thats what a lot of the areas around the great lakes have become. there hasn't been any job growth (outside of $20/hr jobs) there since the late 70's when they shut the mills down.

@Moto848 but no more 10X odds on the crap tables

@roberts1677 northern nevada is beautiful. i used to go to ely every spring and fall for the silver state classic. gorgeous scenery in the winter. humboldt national forest and the ward charcoal ovens....and the nevada northern railway
1
where is THAT happening?
1
but they have interstate 8 and our awesome beaches in san diego

@SuperCatacata true- pushing up the prices
1
prolly not enough canals there to build the railroads on top of....

let me guess- a country music station

@hopsiepike we had a 'taste of texas' restaurant in el cajon nearby- it lasted about 5 years. barbecue does better in the big cities.

@jsc1228 correct- race or nationality has NOTHING to do with it- their money is as good as anyone's.
1
true- it used to be quite common welcoming new neighbors from phoenix. and that was when aZ was more of a red state and so were we.
1
gosh that must be true of san diego county, too.
1
take route 66/I-40- you'll see some of both states

we have that kind of corporate exodus here in socal, too. the difference is there are companies coming here to take their places. the old hewlett packard plant is going to be the new engineering center for tesla, for example. even with the higher mortgage rates, homes in the more desirable areas of san diego county are still selling at 50-75K over asking and there are people bidding on each and every place around here. tax delinquent properties that look like dumps are going (at auction) for over 500K, as long as the area is desirable. LA and further inland not so much.

lets see- temperature 100C=212F and 0C=32F, weight measure 1LB = 2.2KG, liquid measure 1 gal.= 3.89L, distance 1.6K= 1M. off the top of my head- we learned that in school in the 60's. we had good schools back then.
1
not really- its all about available fuel, prevailing and monsoonal winds, and access. we've had some of our worst santa ana- driven fires in the fall and winter. all this rain (weve had more than an average year's rain in the last three months) will help with the insurance cancellations for the time being.

I-8, san diego and our beaches are 3 reasons
