@bakiozturk2112 Bruh, since when are people so gullible as to take leaders, let alone proto-dictators at their word? Look at the dang treaty, and I'm pretty sure nothing there indicates that Sweden HAS to give Turkey anyone or anything. You didn't actually answer me last time, so that indicates a lie. I will fully admit if I'm wrong, but I have seen nothing of the sort to prove me wrong. Tell me, if Erdogan says that all who support the Kurds are against Turkish security, does that mean that we have to start silencing them for your security too? Simply saying; "it's for national security" isn't enough. Sweden is facing the possibility of an INVASION, while Turkey's national security is...what? Facing a far-away anti-Turkish propagandist at best? If the US demanded that Turkey surrender its claims in the Cyprus lest Turkey get kicked out of NATO in the event of a possible Russian invasion, would you also call that a "win-win"? This is some common sense, bruh. It'd be one thing if Turkey tried this 2 years ago when things were relatively quiet, but now? That's just blackmail, and proves a lot of Turkey's detractors correct. France must be celebrating this.

@bakiozturk2112 I don't recall a promise to literally give Turkey these "terrorists", just a promise to consider it. I could be wrong though.

@diogenesofsinope5358 The growth of Asia has been a fact for a while now, but Russia is not a part of that fast growth. Russia has the worst of both worlds; the initial poverty of Asia with the comparatively slow growth of the West. Also, don't treat the east like a single unit. Asia is very disunited and many are allies with the West to begin with.

@andmos1001 Okay, you say that, but Sweden has refused to extradite people accused of espionage in the US...while they arrest people accused of espionage on Sweden. So Sweden either is hypocritical on the matter, or they play fast and loose with it.

@andmos1001 Okay, but the idea was that Sweden wouldn't extradite people to countries for humanist reasons; for that specific example it was because it was considered a "political offense". So either Sweden isn't aligning with its own principles, or it conveniently forgot about them when the time came.

Utilizing a veto like that when someone's country is in danger by an imperialist power next door to get what you want is not "everyone wins". It's just blackmail. It's like threatening to blockade the Turkish straits unless Turkey gives the US something.

@diogenesofsinope5358 The West lost its dominance by the late 20th century already. Nobody ever disputed that; the only one that has hegemony is the US, and that's as much to do with its alliance structure as it does its own individual power. Uh, Russia is ranked #57 in GDP per capita. I wouldn't call that medium rich, I'd call that barely above 3rd world country. So a little better than most of Asia, far enough. And to be blunt; that's just an excuse for Russian oligarchs to bleed the country dry while the average man gets little for a country of many resources. How many Russian rich people send their kids to live in the West for an education and to live? Russian economic interdependence with the West as a whole made up something like 40% of its economy. That's not sanction-proof at all. Made even worse when the West did not even initiate that many sanctions on the actual Russian economy yet. A lot of trade is still ongoing.

@diogenesofsinope5358 Like 100 of those countries are in the gutter in terms of quality of life. The ones in the top 100 are the mentionable ones, and Russia is smack in the lower middle of that. That's not great. I hope you realize that median incomes and HDI take into account the wealth disparity and tends to focus on the average citizen too; and those also spell that Russia is not exactly a great country to live in as well. I used GDP per capita to Russia's benefit because other standards of metric damn Russia further. Also no, wealthy Americans by far are more likely to send their kids to places like Harvard and other famous colleges within the US. Wealthy Americans send their kids abroad in trips to be sure, but the education stays within the country. Saudi Arabia does the same as Russia and send their rich kids to the US for education too. Oh please, Russian sanctions in 2014 were barely anything.

@jmhorange I love this victim blaming logic. You can't blame others responding to the threat of imperialist aggression as if that's provoking more imperialism. You can only blame the aggressor acting in their imperialism for the conflict. You act as if its the US or NATO's job to end this war when its up to RUSSIA to end it; the US and NATO have no control over that and actively going all in will get them blamed anyway. No matter what, with your logic, the US and NATO get the blame when its another party actively doing the invading and starting this whole crisis. Do you also blame women for wearing too little and provoking their assault while you're at it?

@rjfaber1991 That's unlikely. Neither the UK or France or even the US will risk nuclear war at home by using their nukes. The threat of nuclear deterrent only works if the other side truly believes they will use them. And Putin knows none of the nuclear powers will use it for some place so far from home. No, the only true threat is conventional military arms. And to be blunt, only the US had the true capability to not only beat back a Russian invasion, but to pierce into Russian territory for retaliation as well as do it before much Baltic lands get damaged. Maybe the likes of France and the UK can hold the line and deal absurd casualties to the comparatively poor Russians, but as a dictatorship with absurd propaganda the Russians can genuinely throw men at the lines and do immense damage still. All while far-flung Western European nations have to deal with electorates that often don't want to deal with the cost of such a conflict. Sorry to say, but the US is genuinely the only reason NATO is a big deal and such an effective deterrent. Maybe that will change, but that has been the case since the Cold War's end.

@jmhorange No, it is victim blaming; NATO "expansion" never once posed a threat to Russia which is the logic Putler is using; it's a threat to Russian influence since they can't use threats and violence to extract power from the nations near them. Those Western advisors saying that NATO growth would lead to conflict were imperialists; they believed that small states shouldn't have rights and that they only exist to serve as buffer for big states. So basically; they're sociopaths that should be put into insane asylums. Edit: They're the same people taht advocated for funding the Mujahideen, for overthrowing Iranian democracy, for Operation Gladio, for the overthrow of democracies in Latin America. They're THOSE people, and you're unironically acting like we should listen to them??? Russia holds sole blame for this, the same as how a woman dressing in lingerie doesn't mean that she holds some blame for getting assaulted. NATO never once promised Ukraine could enter NATO. NATO promised that Ukraine had the option to join, not that it had a reserved seat or anything. That's not how NATO works, and your ignorance proves how effective Russian propaganda is. Do yourself a favor and actually read about the process to join NATO -you can't invite nations, nations have to apply.

@jmhorange I am sick and tired of people crying about "geopolitics" all while ignoring the human element and their own morality. Geopolitics is supposed to inform what national interests are, but that never, NEVER justifies them. It's within the US' national interests to ethnically cleanse Ukraine from all Russian minorities, that doesn't make it justified and fair. Also, your own logic is flawed; it relies on the West being hte only adult in the room. Russia itself has repeatedly stabbed itself in the foot geopolitically -its constant threats and aggressive actions and lackluster economy has created an environment which Ukraine was pushing to join Western institutions. And then Russia's actions in 2014 and now in 2022 created the circumstances which MORE nations are aligning with NATO. By your own logic, Russia is the one that is responsible because it was unwise geopolitically. And yet you only talk about how the West or NATO is gonna exacerbate the situation when Russia is the one that did so. Why is that? Why does Russia get that free pass but the West has to give a crap when Russia never, not once, ever cared about the consequences of their actions? It's not like the West was the one that threatened nuclear war for stepping into Ukraine. No, that was Russia -so yes, Russia is 100% responsible for all of this. In this specific conflict.
