@AemondTargaryenthe1st Soviets/Russians lost in Afghanistan with something like 10 times the number of dead the US faced in Afghanistan within half the time period. So the only thing funny is the absurd lack of empathy for Russian lives.

@Silver_Prussian US always wins conventional warfare quickly to begin with; and guerilla warfare is often what cripples countries. ANY big power getting these massive war deaths is pure insanity in the 21st century.

@PutXi_Whipped Idk, I think the fact that Putin called for mobilization in the first place is decent proof. You don't need 300k men if you only lost 10k men in the first place.

@Silver_Prussian Iraq actually had a competent military with a powerful air force, strong air defense systems, many tanks, etc, etc. Ukraine was a joke even at the start of the war -everyone expected Russia to steamroll through Ukraine because if it was the US; they'd definitely steamroll through Ukraine. But Russia is not the US, so now its stuck dealing with a conventional war with foreign support to their enemies while dealing with guerillas. Also the US did not invade with 500k men, it invaded with 160k men: "The U.S.-led coalition sent 160,000 troops into Iraq during the initial invasion phase, which lasted from 19 March to 1 May 2003. About 73% or 130,000 soldiers were American, with about 45,000 British soldiers (25%), 2,000 Australian soldiers (1%), and 194 Polish soldiers (0.1%). Thirty-six other countries were involved in its aftermath." The 500k were over those involved in Iraq at the invasion and throughout the occupation. Russia tried to do what the US did, but failed miserably due to not having the means, coordination, or capability to do so. Everyone overestimated Russia, including the Americans. Also, for the record, Russia bombed multiple city centers and key military locations while massacring many civilians; the death toll from this war far surpasses anything the US has done in recent memory. Idk why you're acting like Russia held back; all evidence points to Russia just not caring about civilian casualties at all.

@cfvgd I'm surprised you do not. All evidence points to it thus far. Russia is not the US, and Ukraine is not Iraq -the calculus is different and it's hardly the first time Russia attacked someone and then lost many more men than the defenders.

@cfvgd We don't have any numbers for Ukraine, but if Zelensky was telling the truth and 100 soldiers were dying per day at the worst of the fighting; the number at worst comes at 30k Ukrainian dead.

@prometheusjackson8787 Jesus, your comments indicate that your criticisms of the US are worthless considering your beliefs. Anyone who moves to the US and believes in the US' founding principles are American. End of story. Every American knows this with a few exceptions; that's kinda the US' thing.

@oaoa4320 Nah, wounded soldiers can go back onto the field so the wounded number can be as high as 150k but I'm sure like half of them returned to the fight afterwards. I am saying taht the Russian army was on fumes before the mobilization though, prolly with less than 70k men available. Also don't be obtuse, Russia is a joke to the US, but its still strong compared to Ukraine; the latter cannot steamroll through Russia despite the memes.

@zombieat 1) 300k draftees doesn't make sense for less than 30k deaths 2) US lost almost 60k in 10+ years while Russia lost that in 7 months. Russia lost more than 10× per capita than the US.

@zombieat Okay? And? Wounded doesn't mean all at once and it doesn't mean they're out of the fight entirely. Also the wounded:death ratio has always been 3:1, not 5:1. The Russians needed to have permanently lost a massive amount of troops to be pushed to conscript 300k men.
