@eodyn7 I think OP is referring to when the term was created, which I have no idea when though.

@m1863m Is it a strength when society collapses to civil war because external enemies fan the flames of divisions and people can't call it out because they're too divided on itnernal issues? Not saying that internal reflection is bad, in fact I also perceive it as a positive, but at some point people should recognize that the USSR and now modern rivals have and will use such internal criticisms as a shield against their own bad actions both in a geopolitical and a moral sense.

@m1863m And what creates those factions and perceived deep seated differences? Bitter arguments that are fanned and exploited by outside powers. For example with the US, it's a fact that Russia has bots that makes conspiracies or fake news which increase people's fears. There's also the fact that external nations that have control of their media points to Western countries as terriible societies while intentionally hiding the faults in their own, effectively allowing dictatorships to deflect and even convince other Westerners that dictatorship ain't so bad since it seems like they have their house in order. At what point is so much internal inspection going to create tunnel vision where people unironically think that unfree societies are better than Western democratic ones? I'm afraid it's a little more common than you might think .Just check any RT news network about Western societies, or any CCP-backed news network like CGTN and they often express such views of the "decadent West".

@m1863m I wasn't referring to the literal Civil War, smart one. I'm more speaking of the future possibility of civil wars in modern Western nations. If a Civil War was necessary to end slavery, then I'm all for it, but that's for something as horrible as slavery, not for political ideologies. Arguments fanned by outside powers 100% can start civil wars. It starts with reasoned discussions, which are fanned to vicious disagreements where they're threatening your freedom/way of life, to the point where they're demonized and you "other" your fellow citizen. I literally talked about online discourse, not cable news. You haven't been listening to me at all, nor do you wish to, it seems.
