@MrFeynmanDiagram How is that curious? There wasn't any embargoes or sanctions, so companies could sell with whom they wish. Hell, it was US industries that helped the USSR with its manufacturing miracle by selling to them as well despite the US being "anti-Communist". Wow, it's almost like...a country's government and specific individuals can have differing views. Did you also know that Americans fought for and against Francoist Spain in the Spanish Civil War? :D

What world do you live in?

@MrFeynmanDiagram Originally they weren't, though after the USSR's aid they were pretty much full-blown Stalinists, complete with the "putting anarchists and republicans against the wall to execute them" stuff.

@manumof699 In the Civil War? Yeah, hard to tell. The only reason I kinda prefer Franco was because he stepped down instead of letting the dictatorship continue, which hasn't occurred in Socialist states yet -but that's pretty much the only reason.

Can't betray someone who was never an ally lol

@josedavidgarcesceballos7 The capitalists literally fought beside Marxists to fuck the Fascists. So by Fascist logic, "the capitalists prefer Marxist than social change". The reality is; we want neither of you. And are prepared to put you two against each other and then destroy you utterly. Get used to it.

@rafaelcanosantos3554 Yeah, and the strategy of the US and its allies towards Nazi Germany at the 40's helped make the criminal regime of Stalin take over half of a continent. If you haven't noticed, we ally with whom we must to get rid of the greater evil, and we'd do it again. Franco was a monster, but he was a baby kitten compared to the evil of the USSR and the dictatorships they spawned and guerilla groups they helped form. Always fight the greater evil, friend.

@igorokinamujika2073 I may have my history wrong. Could have sworn he stepped down; of course I thought he did so near the end of his life anyway, but still. 1) "Most Republicans weren't Communists" which is why the Communists were able to enact purges in their territories with no pushback from the "moderates", right? With all due respect, that's a load of horsecrap. 2) Is there a death toll for both sides? In general, left-wing dictators killed way more than their right-wing counterparts with the exception of the Nazi's. They're both still terrible, but that just seems a statistical fact.

@BattlestarZenobia Yep, like those. You can be a democracy and fuck other democracies for the sake of fighting tyranny. Just as the UK invaded Norway despite being a democracy since it was aiding Nazi Germany. Surprise, surprise; international relations are complicated and alliances of ideologies are not always possible. That being said, there is no proof that the CIA and Secretary of State overthrew the Guatemalan government for a company's profits. The UFC certainlty supported it, but the US government's concerns were specifically Anti-Communist: "The Guatemalan Revolution was disliked by the United States federal government, which was predisposed during the Cold War to see it as communist. This perception grew after Árbenz had been elected and formally legalized the communist Guatemalan Party of Labour." Ditto for Chile.

@MrFeynmanDiagram You think the US assassinated him? Not out of the question, but I'm always uncomfortable with "it happened before, thus will happen again" logic.
1
@ZachLDB Well, a very common argument in South America when it comes to those dictatorships is that they stopped the Marxists from coming into power. Imagine being used as a positive against brutal dictatorships, eh? Don't take it personally. We backed Marxists against the Fascists in WW2, it was the Marxists' turn afterwards is all. We'll make sure you collapse again and again like your Fascist friends, don't you worry :D
1
Just as we cooperated with the Socialists of the dictatorship in the USSR against Nazi Germany. We'd do it again too. :D

@Milquetoastfireball I think the point is that the US allies with the lesser evil to screw the bigger evil, in it's opinion. That is a consistent policy of the US.

@Brandon210-q4n No shit. But just as we were willing to hold our nose and work with the Communists to screw the Fascists. We can do the same with the Fascists to screw the Communists. Whichever is the bigger threat of the year, really.
