@AyoKeito Comparing this to Snowden is like comparing apartheid to the Holocaust. Both bad, but both on a massively different scale that its kinda dishonest.

@myentertainment55 Uh, no, the US Army would not be deployed for that. SWAT teams would be deployed. It's insanity to deploy the army into an urban environment with tanks for anything less than an actual invasion.

@nj828 Plenty of times weaker countries align with other countries to get justice. If this logic was the way of the world, then de-colonization would have never happened and the USSR would still occupy half of Europe.

@John-kc4cg The war Athens said that in would end in Athens' destruction. Using strength as an excuse to do anything leads to self-destruction.

@Eddy1938-b The issue is that this is a consistent theme to extremes. The fact that entire swaths of the Russian population unironically wanted to BAN ethnic Chechens from their cities is alarming. It's like that infamous "Muslim ban" thing in the US but cranked times a thousand.

Americans make fun of 9/11 all the time. So most will consider it fair game.

@toddberkely6791 It's actually reversed. The US' opioid addiction has improved drastically over time that its a meme at this point. And suffice it to say, if protests are any indication, the US public very much are against the concept of resignation to government authority.

@yako.the.yapper Death toll in Afghanistan was 176,000 or so, including military/civilian dead. The civilian death toll by itself was about 46,000 dead in 20 years. The US was practically saints in that war, all things considered. Edit: Also the Taliban did not offer surrender, wut? They offered conditional terms which would have left it in power. May as well argue that the Nazis giving conditional terms to the British meant that the British were the ones at fault for WW2.

@acceptablecasualty5319 Then it's a really sucky law since its never enforced. Basically every country that ever went to war has done worst war crimes than the US have, but nobody cares unless it's for politics. If a law exists but it cannot be enforced then its not a crime in reality. Government bodies can only be held accountable when smashed to pieces by a foreign power or by their electorate; if they have an electorate. Killing a journalist or civilian is terrible morally, but it cannot be stopped or prevented. All we can do is pressure government to do better; but Snowden did commit a crime which can be enforced. So he gets the jail time.

@retineyzer7906 SWAT wasn't created to deal with terrorism to begin with; just difficult situations that cops can't handle but doesn't justify military action. Also, Russia does have a rough equivalent of SWAT. It has OMON.
3
That's a bizarre topic to pin on the US anyway, it's issues with SA are far better than others
2
@acceptablecasualty5319 There is no such thing as a government committing a crime. Such things like the Hague have only worked when genocide is involved, and even then not always. So their point is moot if that is their angle; Snowden committed a crime, and though I agree to it morally, legally speaking he deserves jailtime and anybody arguing against it are arguing in bad faith.
2
@retineyzer7906 That's their own fault for not preparing it, and for using such extreme methods.
2
@retineyzer7906 Of course they are, but nobody is defending the terrorists here. We all know they are 100% at fault, but the state reacting this way is unacceptable.

@LancesArmorStriking And unsurprisingly the Russians use excuses of independence to fight another war. Rules for thee but not for me.

@zippyparakeet1074 99% of the planet: "Merica is too tolerant of Trans people; we'd not let that happen" You: "Merica hates Trans people" Guess you're just ignoring the rest of humanity, huh?
1
@_CaptainCookie Partially true. A lot of propaganda involved, and a lot of that "anti-trans legislation" isn't even that bad. It's like when rightoids cry about "anti-Christian legislation"; mostly propaganda. Some truth in there though.

@mrmakhno3030 Bzzzt wrong. US courts consistently arrests and jails US servicemen for their actions abroad. A minority get off scot-free. The real issue is that sometimes they get lessened sentences after the fact. The guy arrested for My Lai got life imprisonment, but then had it reduced by 10 years. Later 20. 99% of the world are much worse than the US in handling war crimes. Doesn't mean the US is that great at it, just that everyone else sucks.
1
@AyoKeito But the Snowden excuse was legit. He did actually help someone break into US classified computers. What's messed up was that it hid a US war crime, but he did 100% break the law.
1
@Silver_Prussian NOT use tanks and RPGs for one thing. Use specially trained soldiers with small arms to infiltrate the school and take out the terrorists. What kind of beyond disgusting mindset does Russia have that THIS is okay???
1
@belkYT Bruh, we literally have seen what happens when terrorists are involved. Groups like the SWAT are called in. Stop being contrarian.
1
I don't think the US ever bombed their own ethnic minority so viscerally before just yet. Hanged some a few decades back though.
1
@John-kc4cg Everyone who loses a war suddenly becomes "weaker" even if they weren't initially. It's an excuse used by imperialists to justify their conflicts is all.
1
By every metric that's BS. Russia did this crap long before the US existed as a nation, and was always ruthless with its imperialism and lack of care for human life. US wars would never reach the sheer magnitude of death/destruction that Russian forces dish out until the mid 20th century.
1
@myentertainment55 No, they meant Russia. By October some 900,000 Russians fled their country not because of a war there, but because of the Russian government. Ukrainians fleeing war in Ukraine is not quite the same; one indicates fleeing danger, the other indicates fleeing a psychopathic state entity.
