@silversurfer1707 Liar. Russia never once asked to join NATO, Putin claimed he would consider it if NATO asked, but they said that Russia had to apply like everyone else. Russua was insulted that they would be treated like everyone else.

@michaelotieno6524 So...basically what Ukraine was before this whole mess? Euromaiden never entertained joining NATO, yet Russia still invaded.

@tariqqurashi3527 How is this a solution? Ukraine essentially already like that, but Ukraine got invaded. Yet this idea just rewards Russia for territory in return for Ukraine being left vulnerable again. It's a massive concession to Russia, with nothing to show for it.

@julwiezdeghorz5089 He said autocracies, not atrocities, genius. Russia's entire existence in the last century has been a laundry list of invasions into Europe, their security makes it impossible.

@alfalfafalafelmafia That's the only way this would work, but Russia will never accept that.

@4epa1012 Russia's military complex has never been a match for the US' to begin with, why would it being in NATO change that? Russia joining NATO is empty talk, but mostly because it's akin to letting the big threat to many of the NATO states that joined NATO get a back door key. Russia needs to change before the topic can ever be broached.

@4epa1012 Sure, Russia may benefit, but it's unlikely to change much. Nor is it anywhere near something so drastic as to inform US policy at all. "Russia's weapons are known for their quality" And everyone else's are not? What Russia offers isn't even quality, its known for competency, not quality; 2nd rate in many ways but still functional. Besides, almost everyone in NATO in terms of small arms, interconnected equipment, and so forth are well-integrated and often use Western firms. Uprooting that would take decades. Buying Russian jets which can't fit French, British, or US aircraft carriers makes no sense for example.
