I agree this is more of a stunt, but only because China's own investments are done with Chinese companies and workerls doing the work for low income countries; meaning a key padt of the investment never even applies to said beneficiary country. This alongside the leases of infrastructure makes it impossible for the West to mimic China; either the West xan invest with collateral and steal resources/infrastructure like China, or pray that the investment will reach the people. Doing the former would be a political nightmare due to the history of European colonialism which China can avoid for now. Optics is important.

@deciett Everything I said is in the aspect of optics, not morality; and the fact is that in the eyes of much of the Third World, non-European countries can get away with anything short of genocide by deflecting about the West. That's just the blunt truth of the matter.

@lumenart7328 That literally makes no sense. His ideas have been consistent and this has his finger prints. Just cause you saw him tumble once doesn't mean he can't do statecraft dude. Seriously it's like Trump all over again withvpeople assuming he's just a Putin mouthpiece.

@fedimusmaximus2454 It collapsed literally at the end of his term, genius; mostly due to Trump's abysmal handling of Covid. Biden being forced to handle that literal bomb and now propagandist Republicans are acting like it wasn't one of them that led the country to a bad spot. Be honest here, nothing Trump did directly led to the US doing better in his term. US was generally improving since Obama already. Same with Bush if not for the wars.

@deciett Might want to check the comment section of any major non-Western news channel and you'll fine people blaming Ukraine for "poking the bear" and celebrate the deaths done to them for example. Same goes for China debt trap talk. Sorry to say, but in most of the world, people don't care about human rights or morality. It's mostly just tribalism, the "they're on my side so I don't care even if they screw me".

Their middle and working class is already the wealthiest in the world. So by your own metric they already proved that it works.

@R_Alexander029 Generally across the planet the wealth of the poverty-stricken has risen dramatically, so maybe you shouldn't make it all about the West to begin with. If you're talking about asking whether a model works for the world, then by every definition it has -but at some point that means Westerners can't enjoy a monopoly on wealth anymore.

@jays2551 Which is still better than like 99.99% of the planet lol. At least according to international studies on infrastructure. US ranks pretty high.

Mostly because there is no way the US can get away with 99 year loans of infrastructure like China can.
