I don't know what Csgo is, but as an American, I think the memes are a large part of it! The "Russia" that they praise (which is more accurately called "Yaussia", due to their odd reversal of the R) is the Russia of the internet memes: i.e., the Russia of Stalin, unlimited (sarcastic?) praise of authoritarianism, swear words, Red Army caps, the Soviet anthem, and vodka, the place where you reverse all of the Rs to get "Russian" and the fall of the Soviet Union never happened. However, Russia is currently capitalist, and while I am not downplaying Putin's supporters, there are some Russians that are not as pro-Kremlin (in fact, you just watched a video made by a Russian critic of Putinism!) as their "Slav" meme counterparts are (or, as I suspect of many of them, pretend to be?). In fact, I think those internet "Slavs" have more to do with the villains of Hollywood films than any actual Russian!

Exactly! In fact, as an American, I even look out for terms like "Slav" to help tell apart the real Russians from the westerners who like imitating the memes about Russia! In my book, if a "Russian" online uses the term "Slav" (an ethnic group in eastern Europe, which, contrary to popular American belief, aren't just Russians) where they should have used the term "Russian" (of or relating to Russia), then chances are, they are neither Slavic nor Russian! Most of the time, they are Americans, or from another western country! There are Slavs living outside of Russia (in fact, Poland has the second-largest Slavic population!), and non-Slavic peoples inside of Russia (like those people in the Russian Far East who look more Chinese than Slavic!). My thinking is that a Russian would know this, but an American memer wouldn't!
The rule above also applies to those who put words like "Soviet" or "Comrade" in their titles (or Soviet imagery on their channel icon and background), since many of those internet memes about Russia seem to be descended from Cold War films, which don't tend to be documentaries about Russian culture at all!
