@EldarKinSlayer John Garand, the man who designed the rifle and gave it his name, pronounced his name as to rhyme with "errand". Thus, that is the correct pronunciation. "Other people also did it wrong" isn't a great excuse.

Also, "Garand" rhymes with "errand". His pronunciation, while common, is incorrect.

@EldarKinSlayer That isn't how that works. I drive a Ford, which I own outright. If I start pronouncing it "foord", that doesn't become somehow correct because I own the vehicle. There is a proper way to pronounce names, even when those names have been given to inanimate objects. "Guh-RAND" is not the proper way of pronouncing the name Garand. That it is a popular mispronunciation does not make it any less incorrect.

Combat Marines all know what Seabees are. My war was in Iraq in 2005-2006, and we were all aware of the Seabees.

@TheHistoryGuyChannel The Garand (which is properly pronounced to rhyme with "errand" is decidedly not a carbine by any definition of the term. A carbine is either a shortened version of a rifle, or a rifle chambered in an intermediate caliber. The M1 Garand is a full sized rifle firing a full sized rifle caliber.

@EldarKinSlayer Common usage does not imply correctness. There is exactly one correct way to pronounce the name Garand. It isn't "guh-RAND".

@chrisforsyth8323 It's "Parris Island", with two Rs

@chrisforsyth8323 You're wrong, and your attempt to sound clever makes you sound rather foolish.

The Medal of Honor shown in the video is the version awarded to soldiers of the Army. Marines like Lucas receive the Navy version of the medal.
