  1. Literally every aspect of that plan sounds so amazingly half-assed that I can't imagine what would possess anyone to think it was a good idea. I can see a bunch of French lance corporals, or whatever the equivalent was, standing around in an early smoke pit and just describing to their friends how utterly fucked up their unit was, and their friends standing in amazement and laughing and saying "what a dumbass" about whoever came up with that half-assed idea.
