  1. How the hell does anyone give directions? "Make a right on Ridge" or whatever seems a far easier method of getting around then finding some block number that's more or less arbitrarily determined. Japan is bizarre. Also, when I was in Okinawa, I seem to remember at least some of the streets having names, specifically Gate Two Street. But then again, I didn't drive there, and when I wanted to get places, I'd usually just tell the cab driver the name of the place I wanted to go.
