  1. Butter was well known in Europe prior to the Crusades. It just wasn't particularly popular in Mediterranean region, because it spoils in the heat. In Northern Europe, butter was quite common.

  2. Butter hadn't been invented? Yeah, it had. The Romans were aware of butter, the Irish had been burying it in bogs for centuries, and the Scandinavians even exported it. Glaring errors like this make me question the veracity of the rest of this.
