  1. I believe that Paddy Finucane was a distant cousin of mine. Finucane isn't that common of a name. Audie Murphy? Horseshit. John Basilone was the best American fighter in the war. He was awarded a Medal of Honor for single-handedly defeating a Japanese assault with a machine gun on Guadalcanal - severely burning his hands in the process. He then volunteered to go back to war, and landed on Iwo Jima, where he led his men off the beach under heavy fire. He was killed on Iwo Jima, and awarded a Navy Cross posthumously. But of course Basilone was a Marine, and Marines never get remembered. There was a rather large war in the Pacific as well, you know.
