One thing doesn't seem to make sense here: The very end where he said "ground troop losses might favor the British". How is that? I'm not doubting that the individual British soldier is the equal of an American soldier, but with poorly trained emergency mobilizations, and fighting against an enemy with complete air supremacy, you're going to take a lot of casualties.

@kategrant2728 Those advantages can be largely neutralized by the factors I mentioned. A defensive position may be a nice thing to have, but when it starts raining bombs on that position, it's not much good. As for urban warfare, I have some experience with that, and as an attacker. The advantage depends on the quality of the troops involved. US Marines are a hell of a lot higher quality than some illiterate mujahidin, and urban warfare went accordingly for us. Now, it's true that I wouldn't want to fight the Royal Marines in an urban environment (or really anywhere), but by that point, I imagine that the Royal Marines would have suffered heavy attrition, and I'd be fighting a soccer hooligan dressed in camouflage and handed an L85 that he barely knows how to use. I like my odds in that fight.
