Seriously. Various Allied and Axis planes in WWII had far bigger guns. This is more "fastest firing guns on any pre A-10 plane".

One thing I read recently was that WWII ground attack master (and apparently unrepentant Nazi) Hans-Ulrich Rudel was consulted on the design of the A-10. I think that's kinda cool. While I reject Rudel's political ideas, nobody can doubt that he was very, very good at what he was doing - in what, by the end of the war, was an entirely obsolete aircraft. As someone who has seen military service (albeit in the infantry), I like the idea of going to someone who has mastered his military craft and asking what he would want in a weapons system. Plus, it's cool to see a WWII connection to a weapons system in use today. Hans-Ulrich Rudel may not have been a good man, but he was certainly a good ground attack pilot.
