  1. How are deserters heroes? They're exactly the opposite. They're literally leaving the fight instead of fighting it, and abandoning their units, their comrades, and their country. This is the polar opposite of heroics, it is utterly selfish cowardice. Fighting a rearguard action like they did at Dunkirk is heroic. Quitting because the fight is too dangerous is cowardice. The difference is quite stark here.
