  2.  @conversationtosaurusrex  And this is my point. The fact that you think this goes to show that these farcical reenactments serve to obfuscate history and hinder understanding. Having actual military experience, I can tell you with absolute certainty that this nonsense isn't what you say it is. It isn't just a small taste of what the military, or war, or whatever else is like - no more than playing a video game is. If this is a "learning experience", then people are learning the wrong things. I say it's far better not to do this at all, and save yourself the false impressions that this nonsense gives you. As I've said many times, this is not anything like what soldiering is. It isn't just a small taste of it, it isn't even a whiff of it. It's doing something entirely unrelated. The clothes are the same, the equipment is the same, and literally everything else is so radically different as to have zero actual educational value.

  5. This is far less realistic than what you see in (good) movies or TV. It's amateur theater, nothing more. It's superficial at best and only serves to give an absurdly sanitized and outright false impression of what war is like.
