  2.  @davidmccormick7419  That isn't quite true. There have been other weapons in German speaking countries with StG designations - the predecessor to the G3 was called the StG45. Also, a number of rifles from other countries have been called "assault rifle". The SCAR and Tavor come immediately to mind. It is still a stupid term that has been so heavily politicized as to have lost any utility, but FN and IWI have still used it for recent designs.
