  1. The Japanese never called it "whistling death". That's just stupid, no soldiers ever have had nicknames like that for enemy gear, and there is zero evidence that any Japanese soldier, sailor, or airman ever referred to a Corsair by that name. They called it the Sikorsky, because of Igor Sikorsky, who helped design it. When soldiers come up with nicknames for enemy gear, they are virtually always disparaging. Look at the Me-262, which was called a "blowjob" by American pilots.
