  1.  @banalestorchid5814 Sensible take. Realistically the only two things to be alarmist about is the rate of warming & the uncertainty that brings. Humanity as a whole wont face an extinction event from our human-induced climate change. But the standard of living and number of supported humans could drop drastically if a worst case scenario materializes out of the uncertainty. Wiping out much or our advancement & potentially hindering future humans from having the opportunity to ascend beyond our current capability. Such as if humanity depletes most of the natural gas & fossil fuel deposits. Future humans arising out of the ashes of civilization will have a next-to-impossible challenge of achieving our capability or beyond. It might also lock humanity out from space, which could guarantee our extinction on cosmological timescales. Of course this is assuming the worst case scenario and assuming that chemical propulsion is the only way to achieve escape velocity into space. Non-human life will suffer. There will likely be more mass extinction to come in the foreseeable future. But such is life. It’s survival of the fittest & Mother Nature has thrown rapid mass extinction events at earth many times in its history. Yet life remains here and thrives. Humans do not currently pose an existential threat to the prospects of life in Earth. Humans only pose an existential threat to their own standard of living.
