It’s both. The global climate is a very complex system that has, can, and will change without any input from humanity. Humans do have a measurable impact. The concern isn’t how much we’re polluting, rather how rapidly where polluting. Even though historically there have been periods of significantly higher greenhouse gas activity. These periods were gradually built up to after millions and sometimes tens of millions of years of accumulated emissions. Humanity is creating a never-before seen cycle in which we’re causing a high concentration of greenhouse gases in a geologic & cosmic blink of an eye. It’s impacts on the global climate are rather unpredictable. Another concern is humanity could be causing climate change more rapidly than the majority of life on earth can adapt. Science continues to be surprised though by how quickly & suddenly evolution of species is occurring in the modern era, though. But it can’t be ignored that when conditions change rapidly through history, it’s generally followed by global extinction events that kills off much of the biodiversity. Long story short: Shit’s happening and humanity has little understanding about it. It should behoove us as a species to better understand both the natural and artificial causes, and the consequences.

@EarlVy Ice core samples containing isolated air pockets from thousands to millions of years ago depending how far down you drill. Honestly surprised you didn’t know that.

@EarlVy Consequence. They can match it up to geologic events and cosmic events. Yes there are margins of errors but when studying something as broad as the earth over billions of years, you are afforded plenty of wiggle room for error. Does it really matter if you’re a million or two years off when the evidence irrefutably states that massive warming periods have occurred within our multi billion year history? You can be pedantic about exact dates, but without a Time Machine it won’t happen.
