  1. Were it not for a visa delay, I would have been there that day. I later got a battlefield tour of the hotel. They stepped up security afterwards (typical). They had good security but then went lax. About a dozen people were executed in a small hall leading to a service elevator. Lots of blood seeped into the elevator shaft. Took weeks to get rid of the stench. My understanding was that the Air France crews were the targets. In contrast, the Onomo hotel in Bamako is a fortress.
